Our Family and Farm

As a farm family we realize the importance of keeping our land healthy and productive for today and tomorrow.  Our 10 children are regularly in the gardens with us and therefore we are committed to keeping all chemicals and pesticides out of the gardens.  Our dinner table always boasts a large share of vegetables that keep our family nourished, strong, and super healthy!

The garden started with an acre of strawberries. After five years, we added a few vegetables (about half an acre pictured above.) The produce was sold primarily through our CSA farm share program, which started in 2010 with ten members. Interest in our produce and farm share program kept increasing over the years.
Ten tears later our vegetable production has increased to 25 acres (small area of it below). This has supplied our 400 summer farm share members and 200 winter members as well as some wholesale.

Soil health and nutrition is maintained with the use of cover crops, fish fertilizer, and composts. Above is a photo of winter wheat ready to protect the soil through the winter and provide organic matter to the soil next spring.

A newly released herd of lady bugs, as seen in the photo above, is part of our biological approach to pest control. Other biological pest control involves beneficial bacteria and fungi to ward off pests and diseases.

Plastic mulch is used for crops that need a little more heat to produce a timely and abundant yield. Both plastic and organic mulch greatly diminishes water loss and reduces the amount of irrigation water needed.
